General Information
Location : Yurimaguas is the Capital of the Province of Alto Amazonas, located in the northeastern region of the country, on the left bank of the Huallaga River between the mouths of the rivers Shanusi and Paranapura.
Area : 34,965 Km2
Altitude : 182 m.s.n.m.
Climate : Tropical rainforest and an average annual temperature of 28 º C
Access :
By land : From Lima to Tarapoto, 24 hours
From Tarapoto to Yurimaguas, 4 hours.
By air : From Lima to Tarapoto, 1 hour

SANANGO LAKE:

Located 15 minutes from Yurimaguas by boat on the Huallaga river. Rich in fish species. Surrounded by lush vegetation, timber trees, and medicinal plants. Colorful birds of different species.

BALSAPUERTO:

Located 60 km north east of Yurimaguas, (capital of the district of the same name – YA SE MENCIONO), it's the place of the Chayahuita native culture and offers a variety of resources for tourists, such as the Cumpanama stones. Two hours from Balsapuerto, we can also find the Pumayacu Falls, Anchayacu and the Salt Mines.

PARINARI:

One hour and a half by boat from Yurimaguas is Parinari, a community founded by the Chayahuita settlers. This group seems to have managed to keep adapting and redefining their ethnic identity and social organization. They stand out from other communities due to the preservation of their traditions and ancient customs.
Women still retain their traditional clothing and self made utensils.

SHUCUSHYACU:

It is located 38 km southeast of Yurimaguas (approx. 1 hour by boat), district of Teniente César López. This community is on the banks of the Huallaga river, and is known for their hills and crafts made from a type of palm called chambira.

NUEVO TRIUNFO:

Located 50 km southeast of Yurimaguas, approximatrely 2.30 hours upstream from the Huallaga River. From there, a 2 hour walk will take visitors to the Paichio Communal Reserve characterized by its bird diversity, presence of species of fish and lizards.

LAGUNAS:

Located 98 km northeast of Yurimaguas (approx. 12 hours by boat). It is one of the accesses to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, through the Tibilo gorge, a 2 hour trip from Lagunas. Also, a variety of handmade products to be found.

It has a great diversity of eco-tourist attractions: Lake Lagunas, rivers such as Aypenas, Arahuante and Rumiyacu, the Fundo San Juan farm, etc. The main attraction is obviously the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE:

It is the largest protected area in Peru with a high diversity of flora and fauna and a wealth of aquatic wildlife.
It is also the largest protected area in the Amazon, with 449 species of birds, 102 species of mammals, 69 species of reptiles, 58 species of amphibians, 256 species of fish and 1024 species of wild and cultivated plants.

AYPENAS RIVER:

River with several lakes and gorges located 20 km from Lagunas, downstream from the Huallaga river, a 7 hour motor boat trip from the community of Lagunas. It is surrounded by native communities: Yonán, Nueva Santa Isabel, Esperanza, Progreso, 7 de Junio.

CUIPARI LAKE:

Located at 45 km southeast of the city of Yurimaguas (1.30 hour by motor boat) in the district of Teniente César López, Cuipari Lake is a community of more or less 1000 inhabitants. They live on the banks of a beautiful lake covered with aquatic plants called "huamas" where clusters of plants called "ñejas" grow, forming large floating islands. In this lake one can do some swimming, canoeing and other water sports.
